There is no question a person who works tirelessly for the government can be wealthy. There is also no question that same person can receive a lot of criticism for their wanting to help Americans prosper. Of course, there’s no question that U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos is in both categories.

DeVos, who is criticized for a lot of meaningless things by the late-night comics, has also been criticized because of political contributions. She and her husband have contributed more than $130 million to the Republican Party over decades. However, no one discusses the amount of money she and her husband have provided to charities over the same period.

In 2015 DeVoses Gave $11.6 Million in Charitable Donations

In a report released by the Dick and Betsy DeVos Family Foundation, the charitable contributions made by the couple were given to the public. DeVoses are part of the high-profile Amway family dynasty. In 2015, the DeVos family placed 24th on the list of “America’s Top Givers.”

Betsy DeVos has Spent Most of Her Money to Aid Educational Causes.

The education secretary began working to improve the U.S. education system long before she was nominated by President Trump. For example, in 2015, she allotted about $3 million to education causes. In addition, the DeVos foundation awarded about 3 percent, or $357,000 to charitable organization that support education reform. In fact, she has given a lot of money to the later non-profit organizations because of her devotion to education reform causes like choice vouchers and charter schools.

The DeVoses Launched Their First Charter School to Help Michigan Children

Both DeVos and her husband are longtime benefactors of Potter’s Houses, and inner city Christian school and Grand Rapids Christain Schools. About five years ago, she and her husband launched first aviation-themed character school in the country. The located of the school is on the Gerald R. Ford International Airport. Even though they opened the first aviation charter school, that didn’t stop them from donating a plane to the school. In addition, they donated more than $300,000 to the school in 2013.

Besty DeVos Doesn’t Care about the Criticism; She Cares about Improving Education

The second focus for DeVos and her husband is arts and culture. They gave about 21 percent of their money to charity. That amount is about $2.4 million. The rest was distributed among other charities.

As the education secretary, DeVos has received a lot of attention for wanting to help children improve their education. Some of the attention has been good. Most attention, because of other people’s bullying, has been bad.

DeVos doesn’t care. She has never cared. When it comes to helping children improve their education and lives, she’ll take the criticism. She has worked hard to improve the educational system for low-income students long before she began the education secretary.

DeVos is focused. She took the job as education secretary for the money. She took the job to further make a difference in education. She wants all children to have the best education.
